The Dry Spell, A Wedding and a Long Overdue Bookmarked Post

It's been a few weeks since I last checked in, but I haven't forgotten about this little space. Life has just gotten away from me a bit. Last weekend, we had the joy of celebrating the wedding of some very special friends. You might have seen a few pics on my Instagram feed, but below are a few more from the wedding. The theme for the reception was a train station, and it was really cute how they carried that theme out with some of the choices they made.
It was so fun to be there with all of our friends from small group at church. We've really enjoyed getting to know these sweet couples over the last several months. Here are just a few of them, with a pic of us squeezed in there too.

Now, for what I've been reading lately. I'm squeezing a bookmarked post in here too since it's been so long. :) In no particular order:

Getting Down to Business

Little One, You Are Loved

I had such fun making this art for a dear friend's nursery, and the best part was that it came together so quickly! After hearing, and seeing how she planned to decorate the room, I rushed home and raided my paper stash to select the papers that seemed to go best with what my memory could recollect. A couple of hours later, the result was this beauty.
I'd seen this post on using the repetition of shapes to make really interesting art and loved the concept, especially since it seemed like something I could easily adapt and make my own. The idea had been stuck in my brain for awhile, so the opportunity to make a little art for a shower gift seemed like the perfect time to try it out.

The frame is an 8x8 Making Memories shadow box that I've been saving for just the right project, and it was perfect for this art. Once I decided that the background would be a creamy warm grey, I selected papers that were shades of blue, green and white to go with it and pop off the page. I then used my Cricut to cut the heart shapes out. I laid everything out on the paper, including the letter stickers (which I only lightly applied to the paper). Next, I lightly glued each heart on the crease of the center fold to tack it in place. After I had tacked all of the hearts, I adjusted the letter stickers and pressed them down firmly. Finally, I using my sewing machine to add some texture and permanently adhere the heart shapes. Once sewn down, I folded the hearts up so that they came off of the page a bit more. You can see this a little better from the side view.

Some of the papers are Martha Stewart and the others are from the Making Memories Vintage Finds collection. The puffy stickers are American Crafts Thickers. Most of my craft supplies have been collected (a.ka. hoarded) for several years now, so I'm not sure what is still available and what is not.

Such a fun little piece to warm up a space. I just might have to make another one for me!

Easter Blessings

Hope you had a nice, relaxing Easter weekend like I did. There weren't any egg hunts or Easter bunny presents to speak of around our house (since those things tend to show up with little ones, which we do not have yet), but we enjoyed the time off and had the chance to spend some quality time with friends.

I wanted to share a quick hostess gift I whipped up for the Easter luncheon we attended. First, I picked up a beautiful little flower arrangement at the local Trader Joe's. They have great spring plants on sale right now! This one was $3.50.

It was beautiful on its own, but I decided it needed a little embellishment, so I started with some cute polka-dotted paper leftover from washi tape packaging. I cut this into small pennant shapes and attached to some baker's twine with a little scotch tape. Here's what that looked like:

But I wasn't done yet! I still thought it could use a little something else, so I added a tag with "Happy Easter" stamped onto it and a cute little butterfly diecut to finish things off.

Here's a shot with the whole thing all together. Isn't is lovely? Just looking at it, I can't wait for warmer weather to be here!

And, just a final shot of the bounty of a good Easter potluck. Add homemade rolls and strawberry shortcake, and we were stuffed by the end!

Interesting week at the Cofoid house. I'm beginning to think in more detail about next year - things I want to accomplish, how I want to better organize my life, etc. On the flip side, I'm finally starting to catch up with Project Life, and just looking back over the year has made me realize how far I've come. Thank you 2012, you've been good to me!

So, here's what I've enjoyed reading/watching this week:
